Merlin James Ladd, age 73, passed away peacefully in his home on July 3, 2025, after a short battle with cancer.
Merlin was born in Benson, MN on August 30th, 1951, to Alvin and Louise (Alleman) Ladd. They moved to Hinckley, MN when he was 18 months old. Merlin attended Hinckley High School and graduated in 1969.
Merlin met the love of his life, Patti in May of 1969 while working at St. Croix State Park. They got married on June 3rd,1972 in Minneapolis. They were married for over 53 years. He was a heavy equipment operator for over 50 years. He also logged, trapped and put up furs for others.
He was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. He spent a lot of time hunting, fishing and trapping. He was a member of the MN trapper’s association for 45 years. He loved to share his knowledge and passion for the outdoors with everyone he met. Merlin made countless memories with family and friends that will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Lousie; siblings, Allen and Keneth; son-in-law, Cole; sister-in-law, Pam; brother-in-law, Craig, and nephew, Mark.
Merlin is survived by his wife, Patricia “Patti”; sons, Jeremy and Robert (Heather); daughter, Courtney (Andrew); sibling, Nancy; grandchildren, Chase, Gage, Joslynn, and Cayden as well as many more family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 12th at Zion Luther Church in Cloverdale, MN (East of Hinckley) at 11 am with a visitation 1 hour prior (10am -11am). Private Family burial will be planned for a later date.
