The Minnesota Trappers Association (MTA) recently provided four sets of tanned pelts – representing 14 native Minnesota furbearer species per set – to support DNR education and outreach efforts statewide. These high-quality fur sets are now available in each region. This effort continues the long-standing MTA Tanned Fur Project, which has supplied pelts to schools, nature centers, parks, and outreach events across Minnesota for decades. The project depends on fur donations from MTA members and on confiscated pelts provided by DNR Conservation Officers. This partnership ensure that furbearers from enforcement cases are used for public education.
Each set includes an MTA educational banner and would have cost the DNR more than $3,000 to purchase outright – including $1,000 in tanning costs. This donation reflects the MTA’s ongoing commitment to supporting DNR staff in public engagement around wildlife conservation and trapping.
Many conservation officers contribute regularly to this effort, and their support has helped expand educational opportunities in communities across the state. It is hoped this donation will encourage even broader participation.
