RIP Miss Molly
The dust has finally settled.
Since the last time you got an email from Dog Lovers 4 Safe Trapping MN) (DL4STMN) there have been some major changes that are worth your attention. Dog Lovers 4 Safe Trapping MN has closed it’s door. That’s the first one. A lot of good serious people tried but we could never get traction in the legislature. Maybe having a near balance of votes in the legislature isn’t such a good thing. How is it that a small group of legislators can override 3 million pet owners in spite of overwhelming evidence that our pets are being needlessly killed every trapping season? And why would they do that? Public land belongs to all of us and we should not allow a small group of people drive us out of it by putting out what amounts to baited land mines.
When it’s bobcat season a quiet stroll through the woods is like putting your pet on a roulette table. Maybe they will come out of the woods under their own power or maybe they won’t. Another innocent dog was killed last week after being lured into the woods. Another dog lost it’s leg in a “safe” foothold trap. It’s likely that more dogs have been killed or maimed this season. It happens every season. Why do we allow this on our public land?
The second major change is the formation of a new group. It’s goal is to make the woods safe for our dogs. The name of the organization is www.BanPublicLandTrappingmn.com
Here is an example of the need to make our public land safe from traps of all types and sizes. It’s a beautiful fall day and you want to hike into a small remote lake but when you realize that there might be legally set traps you hesitate. Then you turn around and go home. You just can’t tell if there are traps waiting for and unsuspecting dog. I have 2+ decades of experience. My dog was dead before I even knew that she was caught. I can tell you with certainty that your pet can and will find the trap before you find it.
I just buried my two senior springers at ages 14 and 16 years old. In the entire time I was privileged to share our time we were kept out of the woods every trapping season and most winters. Anyone who has ever had springers knows that they live for running through the woods and fields.
That needs to be changed. www.BanPublicLandTrappingmn.com
Please post this on the Facebook page and encourage members to take a look at what we’re up against in the future.
