Minnesota Trappers Association
Incentive & Fundraising Committee (IFC)
Spring 2021 Report
We’re moving forward on some new and innovative fundraising ideas. At our last meeting on Jan 30, 2021 the Board discussed the IFC report and approved several initiatives to pursue. Several possibilities were considered including: Top Recruiter, Minnesota Book (with native animals), Beaver Tail Contest, Collector’s Trap Program, Fur Shed Program, Annual Trapping Trophy Case, Calendar and perhaps an additional Gun Raffle. The following three will be pursued at this time. All are in early stages of development at this point.
"Top Recruiter" This would be an award presented at our annual winter meeting recognizing the MTA member who recruited the most new members during the previous year. The cut off for credit would be the last day of the calendar year. For 2021 that would be Dec.31st. Cash awards have been approved at $100, $75, $50 for first through third place. Top recruiters will be recognized in the Newsletter, announced at our winter meeting, and also acknowledged on our website and Facebook platforms.
In order to simply and accurately keep a record, recruiters are asked to write their names on the membership applications as well to assist Membership Coordinators in tracking.
"Putting Your Tails to Work for the MTA" The collection and eventual sale of beaver tails with proceeds to benefit MTA is also being looked into. Most trappers are unaware of the untapped market for beaver tails for use in lure manufacturing and leather making as well. Dan Collins is leading this effort and we have a potential person in mind to help organize this as a fundraiser.
“Collector Trap Calendar Fundraiser” A calendar will be developed for 2022 that will identify and describe characteristics of various old traps worthy of your attention as collector’s items highlighting a different model each month.
These efforts are directed at generating additional dollars to support our General Fund which has been running in the red in recent years. The Board is seeking to establish a few long-term fund generating vehicles to assist in supporting Association activities.
If you have other ideas of this sort, or feel comfortable volunteering in this niche, we’d love to speak with you. Please contact Brian Fischer or any other member of this Committee.
