Frank Brula

Frank Brula was born on January 23, 1936, and grew up in Tower, MN. After high school, Frank went off to college, furthered his education, and began his career as a teacher. He taught in the Barnum and Babbitt school districts. Frank is married to his wife Linda and they make their home during the winter in Babbitt and spend their summers at the family cabin on Lake Vermilion.

Frank began his passion for trapping at a young age and continues to this day. At 82 years of age, he still traps around 200 beaver per season, takes his limit of otter, pine marten, fisher, ‘cats, and takes good numbers of the other furbearers that inhabit his trapping area. In my opinion, he is one of the best trappers in NE Minnesota.

Frank has been District 1 Co-Director since February 2010. He has never missed a district meeting or BOD meeting in this time. Frank also helps out at various sport shows and other outdoor events always promoting the benefits of trapping and telling others of all the good things the MTA is doing to preserve and promote our sport.

Frank also helps out at trapper education classes in our district. Because of his career as an educator and his expert ability as a trapper, the young trappers are all ears when he teaches his segment of the class. A couple years ago my wife and I attended Frank’s 80th birthday party. What impressed me the most was the number of his former students in attendance, what they all said was Frank was very strict and demanded excellence but also had a kind heart and went out of his way to help the students that were trying but struggling in his class.

Because of all of the above qualities this man possesses I believe Frank Brula should be inducted into the MTA Hall of Fame for 2019. Thank you.
