Winter 2022 Report
Director Andy Shoemaker
Greetings Trappers,
As I write this, I am in the midst of the 2022 Game Fair opening weekend at Armstrong Kennels, Ramsey. We had a shortened first day due to violent storms, but the weather was much improved on Saturday and Sunday and attendance soared! Attendee traffic stopping at our MTA booth has been great, and I’ll include a full report/article for a subsequent newsletter. Thanks to helpers for the first weekend, Dan and Dave Collins, Dan Nalezny, and Co-Director Dan Stout! Great job guys.
Just wanted to thank all those who worked so hard to make the 2022 MTA Summer Convention in Wadena such a great event! Glad to hear it was so well attended. Thanks to all who made it a great show.
For the first time in many years, I was unable to attend. The COVID hit me less than a week before the convention, so I had to cancel my obligations. See the report by Dan Stout on the get-together in Wadena.
I am still working out a date for our district fall meeting. Once set, it will get posted on the MTA Facebook page and website and also email notices to district members with all the details. It should be a great get-together.
We are also looking into offering a fall Trapper Education Class and Field Training Session. It seems every year I get a request a week or so removed from opening trapping dates. Just looking for a place to host it, in order to set final dates, this will be advertised on all MTA outlets as well.
Regardless of the fur market, please make a point to get out and trap season. To bring additional enjoyment to your trapping activities, introduce someone new to the sport. You’ll find it rewarding and you may be surprised how fast an eager trapper will learn and have success. It’s a great thing to be part of.
