Spring 2024 Report

The winter board of directors and general membership meetings are behind us.  I also attended the Legal Defense Fund Banquet for the first time, and I must give a pat on the back and my thank you to everyone involved in putting it together- what an event.  President Brian Fischer works the microphone in great form as this event rolls along.  Money-making events rolled along all night and a very good meal was had by all.  I met lots of new members and obtained promises to help and practical advice regarding the upcoming convention D4 will be hosting in August.  The spring board of directors meeting will be held on March 2nd at Frosty’s Bar & Grill 214 Main Street South in Pierz MN beginning at 9:00 AM.  Doors will open at 8:00 AM.

Our District 4 meeting is set for March 9th at the Red Rooster in Genola. No reminder cards will be sent.   Doors for the meeting will open at 8:00 AM. Many door prizes will be given away. Breakfast will be available at the Red Rooster beginning at 7:00 AM if you’re interested and dinner will be available at your own expense after the meeting.

Check the convention motel list in this issue or the MTA website.

The convention will be August 1-3 at the Morrison County Fairgrounds in Little Falls hosted by D4.  Check this newsletter and the website for more information on rooms etc.  We will need a bunch of help and I hope we can get a good response from volunteers.  I don’t have my head wrapped around all of it yet, but please call me or Tom Boser and we can talk a little trapping and maybe even find a convention job that you might enjoy.  Sunday morning post-convention clean-up is where the greatest need exists for a group of volunteers. Depending on the number of helpers this may take up to three or four hours to accomplish. Local member volunteers would be most appreciated.

Gun Raffle tickets are out in the mail and if you do not have yours, I am sure they will be coming.  Looks like a nice group of valuable prizes.  I plan on going to Trappers Day at the Capitol and I’m open to carpooling. I think the overall catch of bobcats, fishers, and martens will be up because of the nice weather.  I know one thing; the weather kept all outdoorsmen active in the woods until at least Christmas, particularly late-season grouse hunters.  I’ve never had so many people walk in on my set locations.  There was not much disturbance but that’s all part of it.

Thanks, Ralph
