Minnesota Trapper's Association
2021 Convention Report
May 6, 2021
I am in my fifth season as an MTA coordinator of demos. I am happy to say that the 2021 demo listing for our Convention in Barnum should not let people down. We will have the same crew creating the spaces which are reassuring for we have the best demo setup around. We constantly are trying to improve our sound system and leak-free water demo area and other conveniences that make watching the presenters comfortable. Tents have been put on reserve for land, water, and BTC demos. It's an all-around good thing. Spectators, presenters, and the weather are not quite the factor anymore.
Tentative sneak peek: Both land and water demos start at 1:00 pm, Thursday afternoon, one hour after the gates to the fairgrounds open. We will have 4 demos, both water and land on Thursday each hour. Nine demos each for water and land are scheduled on Friday starting at 8:00 am, with the last presenter at 4:00 pm. Seven demos each for water and land on Saturday, starting at 8:00 am and ending at about 3:00 pm. Our membership meeting is scheduled for 3:00 pm. There should be an opportunity to take in a demo for most animals native to Minnesota. With that being said we will also be offering a wide range of categories such as antique traps, nuisance control, fur handling, and a variety of snaring and foothold applications. If you’re counting, that totals 40 combined land and water demos. I have set up demos that there will be a qualifying demo being presented every hour from the start. This is to satisfy the participant's second part of getting certified to become a trapper. All the demos listed with an * should meet MTA’s qualifying standards. You can pick up your registration sheet at the MTA booth before attending the presentations and have the instructor sign your copy. One other note worth mentioning is that the lineup has many professional presenters and this year we have added 12 new faces. Please make them all welcome. I thank them all in advance and look forward to getting together with all of you.
The tentative listing of the demo’s lineup is on the website and will be periodically posted on our FaceBook page. Let people know they should watch our website for last-minute cancelations.
