Fur Takers Association Report - Dale Hayes

Dale Hayes
I decided to make the drive down to Columbia, Missouri to attend the 2008 FTA convention. Thanks to the Missouri Trappers for hosting this year’s event and even though the days were warm, I had a good time. It helped that I was camping out at the nearby Budget Inn. Next year, I will also be camping the same way since the location will be Mena, Arkansas and then in 2010 it will be in Columbus, Indiana. Some personnel changes include Carol Krumwiede is now the treasurer, Paul Ellsworth is the secretary and Tim Rose is the chairman of the governing board. If anyone picked up a membership application or a magazine and decides to join the FTA, please send the paperwork to Carol. Her address and other information can be found in the Fur Taker magazine or on their webpage. You may also contact me, if necessary. With everything else going up, it was decided that on January 1, 2009 FTA annual dues will raise to 30.00, and also to offer a two and three years option. Within the next couple of weeks, members should be receiving their ballot to elect the new governing board members for a three year term. I ask that you to research the candidates complete the ballot and return it before the deadline.

The FTA celebrated their 40th anniversary this year and decided to have a commemorative trap for this occasion. There was a limit of 200 traps and, they were sold out before the convention. I had called and reserved a trap for me and one to donate for the MTA benefit auction. I asked that whatever the amount was, it be used for our legal defense fund. I would like to thank Dan for purchasing the trap at 240.00. I do not collect traps, so who knows maybe the other will appear at a future auction.

Thanks to everyone who either joined or renewed their membership at the MTA summer convention. Remember, if you have questions about the FTA, contact me and I will do my best to help.

I would also like to thank the FTA and others for their support and assistance with our lawsuit. The legal team did an awesome job.
