Director Report

Greetings Metro Trappers,

By now,  the summer convention has come and gone.

I’d like to thank all those trappers who helped us out with our convention duties. Thanks to: Trapper Phil, Dan Nalezny, Jim Wallner, Fran, and Jake.  Hope everyone had a good time.  As always, it was fun talking trapping to new, as well as old friends.  As Jake said, “it’s the best way to learn.”

A lot of my e-mail addresses are outdated.  If you’re reading this, please drop me an E-mail to insure that yours is current.  E-mail is the easiest and cheapest way to inform people of meetings, up coming booths, and political decisions.  I won’t abuse it, but I do need Yours.

My intentions are to hold the winter meeting in December.  I’d welcome any and all comments on how to boost attendance.  Drop me an e-mail, I’d be glad to hear from you.  My thoughts are to possibly have a C.O. on hand to register fur, and possibly have a famous trapper do a demonstration on fisher and marten trapping.

What are yours?

Thanks,
Mark Palas

Co-Director Report

Hello members,

My name is Jim Wallner and I'm the new District 6 co-director. I was elected at the December meeting. I'll give you a little background on myself. I started trapping when I was 10 years old in the Grand Marais area. The first animal I ever trapped was a Pine Marten, and I've been hooked ever since. Most folks have probably seen my demos on marten and fisher at the MTA conventions. My favorite animals to trap are marten and fisher and bobcat. I also run a long line for coon and mink and do quite well. I also love to hunt and fish. I recently returned from Kansas and was lucky enough to bag a nice turkey. Now the walleye tournament season kicks off.

I would like to thank the members for putting their trust in me. I'll try not to let you down. Any comments good or bad are welcome.

Recently I just finished helping Will Elliot and Mark Palas put on a trappers education class. We had twenty or more kids and parents take the class. We had a field day the last Saturday in April. The weather was terrible; snow and wind, but everyone had fun. I know I did. Thanks to Mike Tucker and Tom Christ for helping, and to Cumberland's Northwest Trappers for donating the lure and supply catalogs for the students.

That's about all for now. Please remember the tanned fur project, sell some raffle tickets, and if possible make a donation to the legal defense fund.

Hope to see everyone at the summer convention, stop by my demo and say hi.

Good luck fishing this summer and be safe,
Jimmy Wallner
