Greetings District 3 Trappers!
District 3’s Spring Meeting was held on March 19th in Menahga, MN. In attendance was our President, Shawn Johnson and approximately 50 fellow trappers. Thanks Shawn for sharing your knowledge on the variety of topics that were discussed and for joining our meeting.
Our District 3 raffle netted nearly $500.00. This would not have been possible without the donations from Dusty Hough, Dave Graham, Louis Wegscheid and Tim Bauer. A special thanks to Gary & Mary Rithi for the goodies that were enjoyed by all.
Our Annual Summer Convention is being held in Barnum, MN from July 30th to August 1st. Our District is responsible for the MTA Booth duty on Friday, July 30th from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and gate duty on Saturday, July 31st from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. We need volunteers to fill these time slots. Please contact Rollie or myself if you are able to fill any of the time slots listed. In order to make this a success, we need your help.
Due to the high cost of postage, the Incentive Traps will no longer be mailed - you can pick them up at the convention. In the event you are unable to attend the convention, we will have them available to you at the next District 3 Meeting. Let’s keep selling those Raffle Tickets. If you need more tickets please feel free to stop by my shop and pick some up, or you can also contact Gary Meis.
This week I gave a talk on the importance of trapping to a local 4-H group. The 4-H Clubs are a great place to reach out to the youth and get them involved. The clubs are very eager to have speakers, so if an opportunity presents itself, I would encourage you to take the opportunity to give a short presentation about trapping. I have a supply of past convention buttons and newsletters to hand out to the kids so they have something to take with them.
Reminder - don’t forget about the county fair booths. If there isn't already a MTA booth at your local fair, please pursue one.
In closing, trappers in Minnesota have loss a tireless supporter in the passing of Richard Raeker. Richard lost his battle with cancer in April. He was long time secretary of the MTA. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time. He will be missed by all.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, ideas or concerns.
I look forward to seeing you all in Barnum, MN.
Dewey

Remember volunteers don't get paid, not because they're worthless, but because they're priceless. ~ Sherry Anderson.
The MTA recently lost a great member. Richard Raeker was a great trapper, a hard working member, and a gentleman in every sense of the word. Many years ago, when I first met him and introduced myself, I was an instant friend. A year later when I saw him again, he immediately called me by name. Another attribute was his great memory.
Our district has been assigned some duties for our summer convention. We are to be at the MTA and souvenir booth on Friday morning from 8:00 to 11:00, and gate duty on Saturday morning from 7:00 to 11:00. We need volunteers and all of those willing to help pitch in and do their share, please contact either Duane or me.
See you at the convention.
Rollie
