Wow! Was this contest ever successful. Many furs and money were donated to the Tanned Fur Project. Your generosity and competitiveness has really given a boost to the tanned fur that will be donated to our Minnesota schools. There are still many children that have never had the opportunity to even touch a tanned Minnesota fur??? Our school teachers are still calling and requesting that the Minnesota Trappers Association bring them something they can use in their science, history, or Minnesota classes. This year we will be able to fill many of the requests because of the Top Gun contest. The Tanned Fur Project always needs some replenishment, so the contest continues.
YOUR DISTRICT CAN SPONSOR THE MOST EXPENSIVE GUN ON THE 2009 RAFFLE, JUST BY DONATING FUR TO THE TANNED FUR PROJECT. IF YOUR DISTRICT DONATED THE GREATEST NUMBER OF FURS, YOUR DISTRICT’S NAME WILL BE ADDED TO THE RAFFLE TICKET AS SPONSOR OF THE TOP GUN.
This year’s contest began on August 1, and will run until August 1, 2009, and every fur you donate to the Tanned Fur Project will count. The winning district will be determined by a point system that will be available in the next newsletter. Check mntrappers.org for more information. All furs except the opossum may be in the rough. They can be given to your district director, Melby Fur, Minnesota Trapline Products, or brought to a district meeting or the winter or spring meetings. Most fur buyers will take your donated furs and get them to the right spot also. If you turn something into a CO make sure he knows what district it is from so you get credit for it. If you don’t have a fur you wish to donate, hand over a bit of cash to help defray the costs of tanning.
District 8 director Gabby Hayes said his district had the 2008 contest in the bag, and they did win, but by one fur. Mark Melby was the individual winner, and both Mark and District 8 have traveling plaques.
You have a chance to have the plaques for one year, and to help educate the youth of our state and promote our trapping industry. Donate those furs!
